Welcome
The P.E. Department would like to welcome you and your student to the 2013/2014 school year. The purpose of this outline is to provide clear guidelines to enable your student to be successful in this physical education class. Our goal is to promote positive attitudes towards an active lifestyle through fitness, motor development, game play and movement knowledge. Two key components of this program are for each student to actively participate and to show good sportsmanship. Ultimately, we want students to try their best and have fun.
Curriculum
Activities include- cooperative games, skill games, dance, fitness and basic physical skills like (skipping, hopping, catching, kicking/throwing balls, coordination, balancing, fit-pit, fleeing, chasing, dodging, volleying, fitness testing.) Student will also learn about how to keep themselves healthy and at the same time enjoy being out-doors. Students will be given opportunities to get drinks at the end of class or they may bring their own water bottles.
Grades
The grades will be a representation of the students’ willingness to try/ participate and showing outstanding sportsmanship. Format of the grades depends on grade level.
Student Dress
Students are required to attend class dressed for active participation (dresses/skirts are not recommended) and it is mandatory that students wear athletic footwear every day they attend P.E. class. For safety reasons we suggest that long hair be pulled back. All electronic devices are to remain in the students’ back-packs during class.
Excused Non-Participation
Parents, if there is a valid reason why your student should not participate in P.E. for a given day please send a dated note (e-mail preferred) to their P.E. teacher and/or classroom teacher. Note: a note from a parent will excuse the student for 2 days only, anything beyond that will require a doctor’s note.
Rules
The department has two sets of rules that we expect our students to follow:
School rules: Be sure to read over the school rules and consequences on the Newcastle web site.
Behavior expectations for physical education students are:
1. Be prepared (ready to learn/participate, athletic shoes on.)
2. Show respect for oneself, classmates, teacher and equipment.
3. All equipment must be accounted for before class is dismissed.
Consequences may be:
Verbal Warning

As your P.E. Department we are committed to provide a quality physical education experience for each and every Newcastle Student by ensuring a safe, non-threatening environment where everyone will have the opportunity for success.
