Welcome to the Newcastle Athletic Program! In order for your child to participate in try-outs, practice and game play on any Newcastle sports team, a sports packet needs to be read, filled-out in its entirety and returned to school to ensure your child is able to participate.
Philosophy and Sportsmanship: Taking part in an athletic program can impact the students’ emotional, intellectual, physical and social development. Being on a team and working with peers, students not only become more self confident but learn the importance of time management, communication, conflict resolution and leadership. Newcastle Elementary School District recognizes the integral components of a sports program and what it brings to a school. N.E.S.D. would like to en-list the help of the parents/guardian in supporting these students and furthermore ask that the highest level sportsmanship be observed on and off the court/field. Please remember to show respect to coaches, athletes and the officials. If you do have a complaint please refer them to the Athletic Director: L.E. Hay = email@example.com.
Student Athlete Bylaws:
Students must have a 2.0 or better grade point average and no F's in core subjects (Math, Science, English, and History)
Grade checks are required before try-outs and ½ way through the season (A.D. will check grades with the students')
Completed forms must be turned into the coach before the 1st practice.
Athletic Director will be responsible for checking merits.
Please note: Students who are below a 2.0 GPA or students who have an F will be removed from the team for the remainder of the season (there is no probationary period).
Student athletes must attend 2/3 (200 minutes) of a school day in order to be eligible to participate in any game/meet/match/contest on that day.
Students my not be accused from P.E. and play in a game the same day.
Newcastle Athlete is: a positive ambassador from the school to the community, a team player, exhibits good sportsmanship, coach-able and loyal.
Student athletes are responsible for their uniforms and they must be turned back in at the end of the season. If the uniform is damaged, lost or stolen holds will be placed on report cards and a replacement fee will be required.
When laundering them please remember to turn them inside out, and do not use bleach or dry them in a drier.
Transportation Procedures: We are able to keep our participation fee low because (NESD) relies on parent participation to transport students to “off-site” games. The District (NESD) does not provide transportation. In the past, parents have arranged carpools to transport students’ to sporting events. If transporting other student athletes then your own, please fill out the transportation agreement in the office (finger printing and proof of insurance is required).
Health Clearance: Board Policy states, “Students shall have a written medical clearance from their physician or a written, dated and signed note from parents/guardians stating that their student is physically fit and capable with no health conditions before participating in interscholastic athletic programs”.
Donation: A donation of $30 is requested per sport. A donation does not limit a student’s eligibility status to play. If not enough donations are collected the team may need to do fundraising or the sport may be cancelled. Checks can be made out to N.E.S.D
We enjoy having students at the games….adult supervision is needed for students in 5th grade and under
